Designed by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, the Fronda Chair for Mattiazzi combines a solid pine structure with a sculpted steel seat, reversing the conventional relationship between wood and metal to create a distinctive, lightweight form. Beneath the seat, an integrated wooden shelf provides discreet storage for books, bags or personal items, reflecting the designers’ interest in furniture that responds elegantly to contemporary patterns of work, dining and movement.

STORY

Fronda Chair

Conceived as a new typology for Mattiazzi, the Fronda collection explores an unusual inversion of materials—wood for structure and metal for seating—while balancing practicality, visual restraint and exceptional craftsmanship.

ABOUT THE BRAND

Mattiazzi

Founded in 1979 by brothers Nevio and Fabiano Mattiazzi in San Giovanni al Natisone, within Italy’s historic chair-making region of Friuli, Mattiazzi began as a specialist woodworking workshop producing highly complex timber components and furniture for other manufacturers before evolving into an independent design brand. Today, the company is recognised for its exceptional command of wood, combining advanced digital manufacturing with deeply rooted craftsmanship to create furniture distinguished by precision, durability and material integrity.
